Effervescent calipers
immersed in oblivion Setting the pace for
automatons left-behind A mindfulness factory jogging in place And an electronic memory device
with no peripherals Struggle some time
with desire to replace A memory device
to help with retentiveness There’s always temptation
to simply erase Any bad feelings and all the unpleasantness Projecting emotions on objects is fun Dispossessed from ourselves
they take on less obtrusiveness One day all this running
from truth will be done We’ll face our own facts
with full knowledge of uselessness This cognitive dissonance It follows you everywhere Awakens an energy Driven by a need for air One day you will wake Simply knowing the truth Don’t try to explain it Or they’ll call on you One day you will wake Simply knowing the truth Don’t try to explain it Or they’ll call on you Shelters all clustered
and nested from need Who could have guessed
science fiction would come to life Perpetual wakefulness:
stars and the trees Stemming the tide
with immutable fortitude Measure out distance
apportion the shares Like some immoral demigod
or superman Linger on line as if you really care Lurking forsaking all others
you’ve underlined Mask your emotions
and push through the day Hustle and muscle position your entropy Shock them with reason
that won’t go away Words are the targets you’ve used
since the seventies Cognitive dissonance Follows you everywhere Awakens an energy Driven by a need for air One day you will wake Simply knowing the truth Don’t try to explain it Or they’ll call on you One day you will wake Simply knowing the truth Don’t try to explain it Or they’ll call on you Lyrics by Andrew Lawrence Jackson

At a certain point the momentum shifted But you didn’t even notice It happened when you weren’t looking It happened when you weren’t focused At a certain point the time stood still But only for a moment It took too long for you to realize That you were golden The path you’re on has many branches That lead to different places Do all roads lead to where you’re going Despite infinite choices At a certain point the momentum shifted But you didn’t even notice It happened when you weren’t looking It happened when you weren’t focused Effervescence time and again It boils up inside you No going back where you were then As memories build new walls to hide you We can only experience This single point in existence We turn around and something slips away Regardless of insistence At a certain point the momentum shifted But we didn’t even notice It happened when we weren’t looking It happened when we weren’t focused Aaah — aah Words and music by Andrew Lawrence Jackson

He probably thinks he’s very clever (He meaning me) It’s all about the layers of the mind Like a runaway train and my mind is the railway A meta (meta) physical (physical) day trip (day trip) A meta (meta) physical (physical) day trip He probably thinks he’s very clever He meaning me It’s all about the layers of the mind Like a runaway train and my mind is the railway A meta (meta) physical (physical) day trip (day trip) A meta (meta) physical (physical) day trip (day trip) I don’t like to tell all my secrets Some things I want to know only for myself Writing of dreaming and dreaming of writing poetry Sometimes the impossible seems possible A metaphysical day trip A metaphysical day trip I don’t like to tell all my secrets Some things I want to know only for myself Writing of dreaming and dreaming of writing poetry Sometimes the impossible seems pointless A metaphysical day trip A metaphysical day trip Words and music by Andrew Lawrence Jackson

Did you really say those words to me Or is it something my mind put there — Augmented reality Did I really see that angel over me Or was it something my mind put there — Invented reality Did I really feel your arms around me It was too many years ago — and so fleeting But I would not revoke those thoughts and feelings Because they remind me — that I am still learning How can I put it any more plainly Your reality doesn’t include me How can I put it any more plainly Your reality doesn’t include me The tiny screen that keeps these pictures close Well it’s still too far away for me I understand the reasons why you moved away But now you’re just an empty void to me Did you really say those words to me Or is it something my mind put there — Augmented Reality Did you really say those words to me Or is it something my mind put there — Augmented Reality How can I put it any more plainly Your reality doesn’t include me How can I put it any more plainly Your reality doesn’t include me The tiny screen that keeps these pictures close Well it’s still too far away for me The tiny screen that keeps these pictures close Well it’s still too far away for me Words and music by Andrew Lawrence Jackson

Growing up I was always dreaming  For some reason, the reason why Eluded me How do I feel about it? Well, Like my head wasn’t screwed on right  Granted, I started at a disadvantage  Don’t be stupid, things are hard, so what? Don’t ignore the obvious You can’t disappear, don’t disappear  That would almost be the end of me But, leave me some room for breathing  Emotional intelligence: always reassuring  For some reason, I’m always faking it Maybe I wasn’t born with that extra something  Like, how do you know if you’re right? It’s not you, it’s not me Maybe it’s just a situation  That we couldn’t foresee Hopefully, we will proceed  But, when no one was looking, someone cut the wires You can’t disappear Please don’t disappear How will I know if you’re near So, please don’t disappear Please don’t disappear Please don’t disappear Growing up I was always dreaming  Growing up I was always dreaming  Dreaming Words and music by Andrew Lawrence Jackson

Maybe we’re always returning Places we’ve haunted In recurring dreams Trying to find Some lost meaning But it disappears As soon as you walk out the door And find yourself back At the place where you started Annie’s a runner Who’s gone now from need Stationary movements She practiced on everyone Dancing through pages Of books she won’t read Prone to oversharing Perpetually on the run Oscar’s an actor Who practiced on me First to admit that It could have been anyone No special skill To fake that kind of need Invoking a future That did not belong to him (Hey) Here comes that unwanted feeling Someone impeccably stealing You’re always retracing your steps Faking intangible precepts Andy’s an author He eats his own words Makes them into movies Projected on everyone Never arrives to Appointments on time Shelling out fragments of Somebody’s diary Cindy’s a memory She doesn’t exist Right next to Judy In somebody’s trophy case Traveled to India Seeking out bliss Wrote back a post card “Life is a setting sun” Here comes that unwanted feeling Someone impeccably stealing You’re always retracing your steps Faking intangible precepts Maybe we’re always returning Places we’ve haunted In recurring dreams Maybe we’re always returning Places we’ve haunted In recurring dreams Here comes that unwanted feeling Places we’ve haunted In recurring dreams Words and music by Andrew Lawrence Jackson

If only the dreams in my eyes Could influence you in some special way
If only the world I imagined Came even close to the one I inhabit each day
If only the lasting effects Of all of this were less severe
If only we could live the life We have always dreamed of here When you’re with me — When you’re with me When you’re with the one you love But they don’t even know When you’re with me I’m the one who’s untouchable With the one you love But they don’t even know When you’re with me I’m the one who’s untouchable Maybe the dreams in my eyes Could one day become their actual size Maybe the ghost you despise Could be taken down to its actual size The spectre of your shadow Leaves shared memories in doubt Across impossible distance We find ourselves without When you’re with me — When you’re with me When you’re with the one you love But they don’t even know When you’re with me ’m the one who’s untouchable With the one you love But they don’t even know When I’m with you You’re the one who’s untouchable
If only the dreams in my eyes Could influence you in some special way If only the world in your eyes Could be a place for me to stay Words and music by Andrew Lawrence Jackson

Coin Toss 03:33
Broken fences mended free So intense is “you and me” So simple it used to be But time complicates everything If you think about it now You will see I’m right somehow Made your promises and vows Through your field they aimed their ploughs Broken fences borders crossed Something found and something lost Recovery but at what cost Fate is just a coin that’s tossed Some days are not meant for us Not because a lack of trust Spontaneously we adjust Do what we will or what we must And I should have known But I couldn’t see A love that’s out on loan Confuses everything Broken fences can’t hold me But I can’t bring myself to leave So simple it used to be But life complicates everything Words and music by Andrew Lawrence Jackson

about

Zru Vogue founding member, indie singer-songwriter-poet Andrew Lawrence Jackson delivers his 20th solo album with "Metaphysical Day trip." Jackson recorded this album in his home studio, composing all songs and playing all instruments. Jackson's often non-linear, impressionistic lyrics speak of the struggle between real and imagined worlds, physical and metaphysical realities. These songs have an intensity and an intention that drive them; the soundscapes and arrangements are deliberately surreal and/or psychedelic. "I wanted to stretch myself on this album," says Jackson. "I wanted the songs on this record to be even more poetic, more psychedelic, and more atmospheric. That was important to me."
